Requiem for a Dream Movie Description
Jared Leto, Marlon Wayans, Jennifer Connelly and Ellen Burstyn all star in this incredibly painful film about four people who are chemically dependent. When the Requiem for a Dream movie begins, the first three people are all using heroin, yet it appears to be reasonably functional.
Over the course of the film, his life begins to fall badly. At the same time, Burstyn plays an older woman who becomes addicted to amphetamines because of an irresponsible doctor who dispenses candy-like pills...
and she goes from being a relatively normal woman to someone who is. , which feels like she has crossed the line from discretion. oblivion
"Requiem for a Dream" is an extraordinary film and there is nothing like it. However, this is a film that I'm glad didn't inspire on other similar films, because it's also a visual assault on the senses and is very difficult to watch...
and I'd love to see a film like this kind of Darren Aronofsky project. Would hate to see the Requiem for a Dream movie after.
By using rapid intercutting of scenes (far more than usual), fisheye lenses, exaggerated sound effects, vibrating lenses, multipane, television characters that pop out of the screen and other weird things, he makes the audience feel as though they are.
too, get caught up in the addiction and, finally, insanity! It's mesmerizing as well as obnoxious... and that's appropriately considering the subject matter. In fact, I don't think a better Requiem for a Dream movie has ever been made about the hellishness of drugs...
Aside from the incredibly clever use of all of these film techniques, the film has a lot going for it. The script, although very episodic, works well...
and thanks to some amazing performances, especially by Burstyn. The only complaint I have about the film, and it's so minor, is that Jennifer Connelly is too beautiful to play a woman who's addicted.
Sure, she falls apart over time... but she still looks model beautiful during most of the Requiem for a Dream movie. She would have looked even thinner...or an ugly actress would have done a better job!
So who would I recommend should watch this film? Well, anyone who loves Requiem for a Dream film and wants to do something different must watch the film.
Also, despite all the nudity, violence, vomit and obscenity, I really recommend parents consider showing their kids this (especially if teens start dabbling in drugs or something that doesn't seem like a good thing). or funny).
It will do far more to discourage them from using drugs than to give them any patting message or sermon!! It shows drugs in all their silliness.... I challenge you to find a Requiem for a Dream film that is both difficult to watch and which when it comes to presenting the effects of drugs.
I'm not sure how the Requiem for a Dream film got an R rating, as it sounds like something that should be NC-17. Terrible to watch...especially as the Requiem for a Dream movie progresses, don't say you weren't warned!! By the end, I was in tears...
I should note that the Etc (Electro-Convulsive Therapy) they show in the Requiem for a Dream movie is very similar to the type done decades ago.
They don't treat shock like this today and it's a relatively benign type of treatment for people who won't respond to other treatments for depression... thank goodness.
You won't want as much to have a sip of wine after watching this mesmerizing Requiem for a Dream movie about the horrors of addiction.
I wasn't a fan of director Darren Aronofsky's debut "Pie," but with this film he proves to be a filmmaker of limitless vision and style.
In Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, four characters are in despair over their drug abuse, most tragically Ellen Burstyn as a well-to-do Jewish widow who unknowingly becomes addicted to prescription diet pills that help her lose weight.
But it draws him into a world of hallucinations and paranoia Burstyn is brilliant. It's so refreshing to see a great legend like her in such a challenging leading role, in which she goes through a hell of worse than "The Exorcist."
But this is a director's film if ever there was. Aronofsky knows how to tell a story in a way that dazzles in his use of sound, editing, and cinematography.
The Chronos Quartet and Clint Mansell's score are some of the most brilliant Requiem for a Dream film musicals I've heard in a very long time.
"Request for a Dream" isn't a Requiem for a Dream filmfor everyone. It is the essence of independent filmmaking, a daring, entertaining, artistic film that stays with you long after you leave the theatre. Hollywood bubblegum it is not.
I went from hearing a lot of discussion about this film to how graphic the material was. Throughout the film you see how Aronofsky tries to send his message to the audience. The characters start off with some mild addictions and then next thing you know the four main characters are living in hell.
I couldn't believe how low they all fell. This Requiem for a Dream film may have the biggest anti-drug message ever. I dare anyone to watch it and not be touched and intimidated by these characters.
Before the Requiem for a Dream movie started I noticed that the audience was quite loud and raucous, but as soon as it ended and the credits rolled the whole place was stone cold. It was wonderful.
Overall I thought the film was excellent. The visuals were done well and the editing was excellent. The actors really put themselves into their roles.
Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly had great chemistry, while Marlon Wayans showed he was a talented actor, not just a talented comic. Ellen Burstyn. very nice! She was amazing.
I can't believe an old lady would allow herself to be filmed like this. He has some serious guts. Not even close to the best female performance I've seen this year. I was completely surprised by him.
Overall, I would say that Requiem For a Dream is a great film. It had a profound effect on me and I couldn't stop thinking about it ever since I saw it on Opening Night.
I would definitely recommend this film to anyone. This is a Requiem for a Dream movie that everyone should see, but unfortunately not enough.

The film is an anthropomorphic-character-study. Darren Aronofsky, Crazy, Rollercoaster, Drug-Induced Requiem for a Dream (2000).
Aronofsky makes the audience feel the 1980s throughout the film. It has a great calling for old-fashioned Hollywood-style filmmaking. The best component of the film is the acting.
Ellen Burstyn is Sarah Goldfarb, a retired couch-potato who is addicted to a bad self-help TV show who makes her believe she can lose weight if she uses certain drugs, pharmaceuticals , which eventually destroys his mind and creates a terrible addiction.
Meanwhile, her dead son, Harry (Jared Leto), comes up with the brilliantly dumb idea of building a shelter for himself, his friend, Tyrone (Marlon Wayans) and Harry's girlfriend, Marion (Jennifer Connelly). .
street drug trade. Unfortunately, she and her friends are now crazy and things are not going as well as planned.
This Requiem for a Dream film is not for the squeamish. This includes the many terrifying aspects of life, the terrible things humans are capable of doing themselves and the consequences of such poor decisions.
It manages to pull the strings of the heart and make you feel very sorry for these people. I'll say no more, but there's a reason why Ellen Burstyn was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar that year. The direction, camera-work and editing are superb and quite fitting for the drug-induced illusion seen in the film.
The film has been given an R rating, but could have gone further. Jennifer Connelly's acting is surprisingly good.
She definitely leaves her comfort zone for this film. For me, the film shook, brought up many emotions and contained a life-lesson that we should all pay attention to.
